To celebrate Mother’s Day, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak also donated US$1 million to the Fund for Refugee Women.

It’s Mother’s Day here in the UAE—however according to one royal, it’s not just something we should celebrate for 24 hours only.

HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, took to social media on Wednesday to share a heartwarming message focused on the occasion.

“For us, every day is a day to celebrate mothers for they are an eternal source of giving,” the royal shared with his 1.9 million Twitter followers.

“We are proud of their role in the family, community and nation, and we pray for their happiness.”

He wasn’t the only royal in the Emirates to celebrate March 21 either, with HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum marking Mother’s Day in a particularly touching way.

The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai visited Fatima Ibrahim bin Suleiman, widow of the late Obaid Al Helou.

“I had heard a lot about her – she is an Emirati mother who devotes herself not only to her family, but also to her community,” Sheikh Mohammed posted on his social media pages, along with a short clip of the meeting.

“We thank her, and all mothers, today and every day.”

Also among those celebrating Mother’s Day was the UAE’s own Mother of the Nation, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

The Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation donated US$1 million to the Fund for Refugee Women, The National reports.

The fund was launched in 2000 to support women and their families across the world, and Sheikha Fatima asked for her donation to be used in programmes that directly benefit refugee women living in marginalised areas.

“The UAE’s refugee aid policy reflects the values of tolerance, love, and brotherhood between peoples, as instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed,” the royal said.

Queen Rania also paid tribute to mothers across the world, writing on Twitter that “there is no feeling stronger than a mother’s love for her children”.

“Today and everyday, we express our appreciation for all mothers who brighten our lives.”

Hear, hear.
