Sponsored Content: It’s about passion, creativity and the right qualification, says ESMOD Dubai’s managing director.

With its cosmopolitan population and mix of styles and cultures, the UAE’s fashion industry is in great shape.

“It’s a nice reflection of Dubai – different styles and different tastes because of different cultures,” says ESMOD Dubai managing director Tamara Hostal.

“In one shop we have the great pleasure to discover abayas close to Western clothes, black next to colours, traditional looks coming from different countries.”

It’s reflective of an open-minded culture, Hostal says, which if an ideal learning environment.

“Fashion is like a language, a cultural one, a creative one, and creativity should not have borders.”

That same mix is reflected in the ESMOD Dubai student body, which is made up of around 70 nationalities.

Whether they’re working on the school’s three-year fashion design degree, or a shorter course on a specialised topic like corsetry or draping, ESMOD students tend to be very hard-working, Hostal says.

Motivation and passion are the two biggest characteristics she looks for in potential students, because those lend themselves to a bold creative vision.

“Coming every day, learning fashion design development, pattern making, and entering in the real world of fashion is not an easy task,” Hostal says.

In addition, ESMOD have recently signed a partnership agreement with Dubai-based couture designer Rami Al Ali for selected students to produce a capsule collection under his mentorship.

It’s an incredible opportunity, and one that could kick-start someone’s career.

Of course, the in-classroom experience is just as carefully thought out.

“We have the perfect methodology to develop their skills and they love to be guided,” Hostal explains.  “We’re all passionate about what we do and where we are. ESMOD Dubai is like a fashion temple, and our students like to spend time at school.”

Students learn to draw, design and cut, alongside classes about fashion history and trends. If you live for fashion, this is going to be heaven.

What sets ESMOD apart is its international reputation, Hostal says. The school is licensed by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority and has placed graduates with houses like Valentino, Givenchy, Vera Wang, and Dior.

Who knows, this could be your big break…
