We all need a little break from routine and the Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi is just right for a mini pick-me-up experience.

THE LOWDOWN

With its close proximity to Dubai, you don’t have to jump on a plane to get there (which is half the battle won, we think). As soon as you enter the impressive lobby, the hotel has one of UAE’s naturally lit atrium, you are lured into a world that is unapologetically Thai, luxurious and yet somehow homely.

On your right is Orchid, an elegant lounge with some 1960s-style touches, a grand piano and an organic coffee bar. The checking-in formalities are completed with the least amount of fuss and you are soon escorted into a glass-walled elevator, which provides a scenic lobby-to-room ride.

SUITE LIFE

The hotel boasts 402 rooms and 131 serviced apartments. Floor-to-ceiling windows mean the suites are bathed in natural light. Despite its Thai origins the grey carpets and chic furniture offer a nod to the Art Deco. The most comfortable feature has to be the inviting soft, linen clad bed – the marble bathrooms running a close second.

STYLISH EATS

When you get hungry make your way to any of the hotels five dining venues. We made our way to the Urban Kitchen which has a Wok With Me brunch every Friday, where you can create your own favourite Thai curry. It was educational (with us making notes to try the dish at home), and totally fun.

The evening saw us cutting into delicious steaks at The Capital Grill. Expect a friendly and very entertaining visit from the chef, as we did. If the steak is not enough to please your tastebuds then the yummy green tea tiramisu surely will.

Drop by Orchid for some afternoon treats, and for a truly Thai experience visit Benjarong Thai, which has delightful seafood spreads every first week of the month.

WELLBEING

What’s a break without nourishment for the body and soul? For some well needed pampering we headed to the Naam Spa, which boasts of experienced therapists and eight treatment rooms. I had the 60-minute gold nourishing and anti-ageing body scrub, which began with a snow lotus formulated scrub combined with gold leaf and licorice extract and ended with an uplifting essential oil of Angelica root massage.

The spa has a myriad choice of massages, beauty treatments and water therapies and for some totally relaxing and extremely indulgent pampering, you can opt for the Naam signature journeys lasting from anything between two and three-and-a-half hours.

EXTRA:

  • A complimentary shuttle service to key points of interest and shopping malls within Abu Dhabi.
  • Staff are attentive without being in your face.
  • Stop to check out the work of local artists on display under the sky dome while walking to the restaurants
