Dolce And Gabbana To Design Claridges Christmas Tree

Did you know there’s only 69 days until Christmas? As if that wasn’t exciting news enough,  it has been revealed that Dolce & Gabbana are to, once more, design Claridge’s prestigious festive tree. This is the second year in a row that our favourite Italian design duo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, are lending their creative skills to work with Claridge’s – one of  the most iconic five-star hotels in London – to design its luxurious Christmas tree.

Last year saw the pair channel their Sicilian roots, taking visitors back to their motherland, however this year the Dolce & Gabbana designers plan to make it a very fairy merry Christmas, creating a scene “surrounded by a magical enchanted forest, and decorated with many woodland animals such as: foxes, deer and squirrels that gather near the fire”.

Making it an international affair the Dolce and Gabbana plan to represent all cultures through their colourful hand-painted glass spheres, which will adorn the tree.

The fabulous pair said: “Christmas is the happiest time of the year for children and we want to celebrate it with a tree that brings together all the different cultures from around the world. We thought of an enchanted forest where the real meets the unreal, just as it does the night before Christmas. It is a very special tradition because it helps spread our love for Italian craftsmanship around the world.”

While decorating a fern tree may seem a million miles away from the illustrious Dolce & Gabbana runway and ready-to-wear collections, the project is probably one of their most extravagant to date. If you have never had the pleasure to see the Claridge’s tree, then let us fill you in. The wondrous tree is so famous that tourists and residents alike flock to the hotel for a sneak peek. So popular is it that in recent years (last five to be exact) the tree has been designed and decorated by someone notable in the fashion industry.

Dolce And Gabbana To Design Claridge's Christmas Tree

Dolce And Gabbana’s 2013 Christmas Tree

In 2011 the tree featured a family of puppets in a Christmas scene and was decorated by Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz. In 2012 the tree was created by Kally Ellis, founder of British floral designers McQueens, while the legendary John Galliano has also lent his creative skills to the exciting festive project.

Thomas Kochs, Claridge’s General Manager, said: “We are delighted to invite Domenico and Stefano to spread their special magic in our lobby once again. Our guests and staff loved their tree so much last year that we just know they will create something equally memorable and enchanting this time.”

Last year’s tree, designed by Dolce and Gabbana, stood at a gigantic 22ft and was displayed displayed in the lobby. The tree will be unveiled on November 19.
