When the circus and runway collide
Christian Dior displayed their Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection on Monday at Paris, which drew its inspiration from the circus. The brand’s creative director went all out with the circus themed show, from the large authentic tent, to the group of acrobats and performers, and even the model’s makeup.

Maria Grazia-Chiuri, Dior’s creative director, took guests on a unique experience as they watched the models strut down the runway. The show included sheer, tulle, and lots of black, white, red, and stripes which stood out next to the regal gold and white flowing gowns.

London-based acrobatic company, Mimbre, helped bring the ‘Dior Dream Parade’ with their incredible acrobatic performance. The performers balanced on each others shoulders, forming a human arch that the models walked through.

What stood out to us the most was the makeup, which really helped bring the looks to life. Creative And Image Director of Christian Dior Make-up, Peter Philips, embraced the shows theme, transforming the models into clowns and mimes. The makeup guru explained the creative process, saying, “I chose a dark and graphic messy look, with a pattern that blends a punk aesthetic with a dreamy pierrot feel. All the emphasis was on the eyes, which are intriguing, and draw you in.”

The eyes really did draw us in, as they are one of the first things that catch your eyes as the models walk down the catwalk. So how did he manage this haunting look? He used Diorshow on stage liquid liner, Waterproof crayon eyeliner, and Diorshow Kohl black.
