The Canadian legend is getting the silver screen treatment

French studio, Gaumont Film announced that they will releasing a film about the life of singer Celine Dion, which is slated for a 2020 release. According to the studio, the film will not be a bopic, but a fictional story inspired by the singer. It will be directed by French filmmaker Valerie Lemercier, who will also star as “Aline,” the character based on Celine. The film will follow Aline on her journey, from being discovered as a teen, to becoming a global sensation. It will also delve into her relationships, as she tragically loses her husband.

The music filled film, will include some of the 50-year-old’s biggest hits; such as the iconic Titanic song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘I’m Alive’. She has already given the project the green light, and her record company authorized the use of her music in the film. The movie, which will cost around $23 million will be shot mainly in French. Production will kick off in March for 18 weeks, which will be spent filming in France, Spain, Canada, and Las Vegas.

Valerie directed several films that achieved success, like ‘Palais Royal!’ and ‘50 Is the New 30’. The actress-turned-director decided to do the film, because she was inspired by Celine’s strength and determination. So far, the crew attached to the project are: costume designer Catherine Leterrier (Coco Before Chanel, From the Land of the Moon), production designer Emmanuelle Duplay (120 BPM), and choreographer Eric Martin (Cirque du Soleil).

We can’t wait to see this film come to life!
