Sounds like the perfect spot for a sundowner.

We’re never short of a new experience here in Dubai, but this latest one looks especially cool. Sharp-eyed visitors to JBR will have noticed a strange column going up near the Roxy cinema – the good news is we now know what it is.

You’ll soon be able to head up there for a glass of something, as the attraction is a sky-high spot called Flying Cup Dubai.

The world’s tallest hotel is coming to Dubai this year…

Yes, that’s right – you’ll sit strapped in with your feet dangling 40 metres above the beach. That’s got to be one of the more high-adrenaline Thursday evening activities we can think of.

According to the company’s website, tickets will start at Dhs75, and kids as young as four will be able to go up. It’s not immediately clear if that price includes any refreshments, and there isn’t an exact opening date yet, but judging from the pace the tower has gone up, we’re thinking it won’t be far off.

The platform will also be available for private events. That would be a birthday to remember, to say the least.

Flying Cup Dubai will be open from 10am-12pm Sunday through to Wednesday, and 10am-1am from Thursday to Saturday.

Dinner in the Sky

It’s not the first experience of its kind we’ve seen in the city. In December 2016, Dinner In The Sky went up by the Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection.

That’s another one that isn’t for the faint of heart, but you really can’t beat it for a view of the sunset.
