From the stage to the desert
Grammy nominee and former Fifth Harmony member, Camila Cabello, had her first solo concert in the UAE over the weekend. The 21-year old was part of the star-studded line up for Virgin Radio’s annual RedFest music festival.

This was not Camila’s first RedFest gig, as she has previously performed with Fifth Harmony, back in 2016. However, while on stage, the singer declared her concert on February 15 as ““my first time being here.” The American-Cuban singer left the girl group during December 2016, and shot to international fame as a solo artist after Havana topped the charts all over the world.
For her one-hour set, Camila kicked of her performance with 80s inspired Never Be the Same. Even though she claimed to be recovering from a cold, Camila put on an incredible show and even brought audience members on stage during a rendition of Real Friends.
The 21-year-old had fun off-stage too – before her concert, she visited the capital, specifically the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. She shared pictures from her experience in an Instagram post which she captioned, “I love the feeling of being humbled by traveling to another place and experiencing a completely different culture, it makes you realize how small your world is in comparison to how big the world actually is; how you’re only living one version in a million of the human experience.”
“But at the same time travel makes you realize we’re not really all that different. i wore a hijab to be respectful when visiting this mosque and at the store this really sweet girl helped me put it on. We didn’t speak the same language, but she was smiling as she helped me, and it felt like she was a close friend. I can’t really describe it, but experiences like this give me such a special feeling of being really close to and really loving people. See you tonight, Dubai.”

The day after her gig, Camila went on a desert safari trip, a must do for all tourists visiting the UAE. Again, she shared pictures with her 30.4 million Instagram followers, saying, “Never in my life did I think I would see a place like this, I urge anyone to save up to travel, and not like a beach/ resort type thing, but to a place that couldn’t be more different than what you know.”
“It changes your life and mind in every way possible and is one of (and arguably the most) the greatest, most humbling adventures of living. getting to see places like this just makes me desperate to see more,” she concluded.

Even though the singer performed on February 15, she decided to spend a few extra days in the UAE, and from the looks of Instagram, it seems like she is living her best life. Camila’s feed has become somewhat of a love letter for Dubai and her experience in the city, as she has posted several pictures with long touching captions.
She spent a few days in the desert, and wrote about it saying, “One of the most gorgeous experiences I’ve ever had. the desert to me was something mystical and almost not real, something I saw in movies but my brain didn’t register as a real place, almost like when you see insane places that look like paintings on planet earth.”

“We got to ride on the dunes and then stay overnight, I woke up to go to the bathroom at 3 and saw stars like I’ve never seen in my life!!! I woke up to all kinds of birds chirping at 4 am – there is something so healing about waking up like that,” she continued.

“No TV, no electrical devices, no people – waking up hearing the sounds of the birds, waking up at the same time – made everything feel so simple and uncomplicated.”
