It’s 100 years since the Father of the Nation was born.
Just yesterday we were reflecting on Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s legacy. The UAE’s Founding Father was seriously ahead of his time in terms of his views on equal opportunities for women, which is particularly on our minds considering this is the Year of Zayed.
We’re clearly not the only ones thinking of Sheikh Zayed, either.

Sunday May 6 marked 100 years since Sheikh Zayed was born, and to celebrate his life and achievements, the Burj Khalifa was lit up with his face.

Along with Sheikh Zayed’s face, the world’s tallest tower had ‘Year of Zayed’ projected onto it in Arabic.
It’s a fitting tribute to a leader who had such a strong vision for the future of the UAE. After all, what better symbol is there for that than the 828-metre Burj Khalifa?

In the past, the tower’s light display has been used to celebrate the 2018 new year, India’s Republic Day, and the safe return of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan to the UAE after he was injured while serving in the UAE Armed Forces in Yemen.
By night or by day, it’s not hard to see why this is one of Dubai’s most beloved landmarks.
