Higher, Further, Faster
After almost a week from its release, Captain Marvel has proven to be another success story for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie, Marvel’s first female superhero film, made more than $455 million in just one weekend. It is one of the most successful debuts for the comic book company – only The Avengers movies, Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War and Iron Man 3 had better opening.
A lot of the film’s success is thanks to its leading lady, Brie Larson, who helped bring feminist icon, Carol Danvers to life. Brie has had her fair-share of awe-inspiring moments in the movie; from wearing her blue and red suit, to the final battle when she literally glows. However, some of our favourite movies come courtesy of the film’s press-junket and red-carpet appearances.

The most iconic moment took place during the London premiere for the superhero flick. It was there, that Brie stood in front of a giant billboard of her as Captain Marvel, with her muscular back in a custom haute couture Valentino gown, complete with flowing cape. The 29-year-old Oscar winning actress looked empowered, confident and strong on the red-carpet, all of the qualities that she wanted to embody during this press tour.

Brie worked with her stylist Samantha McMillen on every look for the premiere, to empower herself on the red-carpet. Every looked her bring Captain Marvel’s confidence and strength to life – a reminder that fashion can be a tool of empowerment. In an interview with People magazine, the actress spoke about her fashion choices, “Clothes are a form of expression and they can be something that makes you feel empowered. I’m introverted, and for me having something that makes me feel good in these very public moments is imperative. But, because we have a really long press tour and a lot of looks, it gives me a lot of opportunities to kind of meditate on what empowerment really means when it comes to fashion.”
Her looks included a sparkly Rodarte jumpsuit, with a cutout bodice and statement sleeves for the New York premiere. She accessorised her glittering outfit with a custom hot-pink clutch by Edie Parker featuring the word “Captain.”

Brie and Samantha outdid themselves for Los Angeles premiere. They turned to Rodarte, this time the actress wore a custom gown, embellished with crystal beaded starbursts. Our favourite part of her look was the custom Jimmy Choo strappy sandals, which featured bedazzled gold stars at the ankles and small, glittering rhinestones across the straps.
