In her first solo photography exhibition, Emirati artist Alia Rashid Alshamsi takes us through a bride’s wedding journey.

The exhibition (Moments In Time) hosted The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC,  showcases 15 pictures inspired by Alia’s own wedding, which was held at the hotel, displaying the little moments that are often forgotten in the midst of all the tension.

“The photographs tell the story of a bride’s thoughts and feelings during the 48 hours surrounding her wedding day,” explains Alia. “I wanted to capture those simple, intangible elements that are often overlooked when we reflect on a wedding.”

The exhibition is a journey through the bride’s big day: at a henna party; the morning of the wedding, when she awakes to the scent of peonies from her bouquet; sipping her coffee, reminiscing about her childhood; making her last phone calls to girlfriends; the brief moment of calm as she prepares to leave her suite to greet her guests; and finally, when the groom lifts her veil.

If you’re planning your own big day, we recommend taking some time out to visit the showcase, if only to remind yourself of what really matters – those little moments.
