Kapoor was in Dubai at time of her death, having last week attended the Ras Al Khaimah wedding of fellow Bollywood star Mohit Marwah and stylist Antra Motiwala.
The star began her career when she was just four years old, appearing in Tamil and Telugu films before making her Bollywood debut in 1975’s Julie.
She enjoyed huge success throughout the 1980s and 90s before taking time off until 2012. Then, her comeback with the film English Vinglish earned her comparisons to Meryl Streep and Audrey Hepburn in international media.
Beloved for her comedic sensibilities, dance numbers and sense of style, Kapoor was one of India’s most renowned actresses.
Many others who knew and loved Kapoor shared memories and condolences for their fellow mourners on social media.
