The cult brand is having a moment in 2018…
Queen Bey might be jet-setting around Europe, but she’s still found time to sport one of Egypt’s most sought-after designer handbags.
She was spotted this week toting the Okhtein embroidered Rodhawk bag out and about in Berlin with her other half, Jay-Z.
The brains behind the label, Aya and Mounaz Abdel Raouf, are a designer dream team, putting Egypt firmly on the fashion map. The sisters were clearly thrilled to see Beyonce repping the brand.
Mounaz posted a message on Facebook thanking Beyonce’s stylist, Zerina Akers: “A strong female icon, carrying an Okhtein bag handmade by the powerful women of Assiut in front of an iconic female figure, Nefertiti. Thank you Zerina for making this happen! This is Egypt baby!”

Bey’s European jaunt isn’t the first time she’s sported one of their designs. Last year, she posted a photo of her with Okhtein’s orange Dome leather belt bag tied around her waist. It was so popular that the 20-time Grammy winner even made it sell out.
Queen B isn’t the only celebrity fan of Okhtein – Gigi Hadid, Olivia Culpo and Emma Watson have recently been spotted toting their IT bags.
Okhtein champions the rich heritage of Egypt while its emphasis on philanthropy is integral to the brand, from hiring employees from low-income backgrounds or working with a local charity.
They revealed in an interview in 2016 how they can often spend up to 18 months strolling around Cairo neighbourhoods to search for suppliers and artisans. “You can find everything in Egypt – but you have to look hard,” Aya, one-half of the duo, told The National.
Only time will tell though if Queen Bey will splurge on a mini-me bag for Blue Ivy…
