She’s in a new campaign with a fashion legend
Italian fashion house Versace has just released a new video featuring Palestinian-American supermodel Bella Hadid. It’s part of the campaign for the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2019 women’s collection and has a dark, theatrical vibe, it’s also quite possibly one of the best campaigns Bella has starred in yet.

She isn’t the only famous face in the latest campaign though, staring alongside the 22-year-old is the fashion house’s iconic chief designer, Donatella Versace.
The teaser clip of the new collection starts to the sound of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake from the eponymous ballet (one of the most recent times the song has been used in pop culture, was in the Oscar-winning dark thriller Black Swan – which the creative team behind the Versace clip were no doubt aware). In the new Versace release, the slightly menacing sound of a tattoo needle can be heard on top of the music.
The camera pans round to reveal Donatella dressed head-to-toe in black, while ominously donning black leather gloves while inking the word “Versace” in large letters on Bella’s right forearm.
Meanwhile, Bella is seen wearing a bright blue mini dress, with her hair pulled back, the effect placing emphasis on her high cheek bones and angular bone structure, while passively turning her head from side to side.
The pair appear “unaware” of the camera initially, the third wall is then shattered by Donatella looking at the camera and simultaneously stopping her work. Then tension then builds as Bella too looks directly at the camera.
The camera then zooms quickly in to Bella’s face, while the music reaches a key moment in the Swan Lake anthem, creating deliberate tension between the viewer and the pair they are watching on screen.

It’s not the first time Bella has worked with Versace. Most recently she walked in the Spring/Summer 2019 show, when the collection was first revealed at Milan Fashion Week this September, with the new collection featuring key 2019 staples including leather, prints and patchwork.

The dramatic video release is one element of the new 2019 campaign. So far the fashion house has also released images of Irina Shayk and Sharlom Harlow too as part of the campaign.
