A recap of yesterday’s incredible Mission to @helmegyptngo with @maisonpyramide ? I was so impressed by the founders of the NGO as they won 2 awards by Harvard and MIT for best social enterprise worldwide. They have made it their Mission to integrate people with special needs into the workplace and socially. I learnt Braille, sign language and put myself, just for a split second, in their shoes. Their spirit is amazing asking us to compete on in a wheelchair competition and cheering us on with their laughter so contagious, it makes you stop and think – how can they appear to be happier than I? I have to learn from them. Today I’m truly feeling blessed and empowered to do more good ?? Keep swiping for the videos ?

A couple of days ago, I had the pleasure of visiting @helmegyptngo with @maisonpyramide There is an advice told to me by my closest friend, and it constantly resonates in my mind. “Always put yourself in their place to fully understand them.” That day I was introduced to the founders of @helmegyptngo and the amazing heroes with stories about persistence, faith and love of life. I got to be in their shoes for a few minutes. I was blindfolded and asked to walk a certain path, sat on a wheelchair and maneuvered my way to reach the finish line. I learnt a few words in sign language and deciphered some in Braille. All in all, the experience was overwhelming. Being in their shoes makes a whole lot of difference. They are not incapable or disabled. We make them disabled by not giving them equal opportunities like everyone else. @helmegyptngo is paving the way for them for a better present and future.

They say you never know what it’s like to be someone else until you walk a mile in their shoes. Well the people I met at @helmegyptngo the other day allowed us to attempt to get a glimpse of their world. From wheelchair races to walking with a blindfold, they managed to teach us about their struggles through laughter, humor and kindness. Their stories are inspiring and their positive energy is infectious. _______________ People with special needs are not disabled. They’re only disabled because we don’t make things accessible to them. Once we learn to educate ourselves, we can help to make it easier for them to find their places in society and in the workplace. The men and women I met were filled with humor, strength and intelligence. If only the rest of the world were like them. Thank you @maisonpyramide & @jessicakahawaty for making this happen ❤

Meet @omar.hesham94 – how can I put into words what I learnt from Omar and his friends today? No obstacle is too big, no problem is unsolvable and never ever give up. The most optimistic people are those who have had “no’s” thrown their way: “you can’t do it”, “we can’t accept you” or “you cant work here”. I spent the whole day with @helmegyptngo where I learnt about their inclusion in the workforce and their personal stories. Did you know that there are 1 billion people with special needs in the world and 15 million alone in Egypt? Sign language is a language of its own we can all learn in order to communicate with them! And the fact I most loved about today is the 5% inclusion statistic for people with special needs in the workforce. They’re company managers, tech minds and hold business development positions when given the opportunity. An incredible woman with a visual impairment (who took us through an incredible experience on my instastory) is a Master Degree holder from NYU! Today I vote for inclusion, tolerance and love ? Thank you to my wonderful friends at @maisonpyramide for organising this day.
