She’s the most senior volunteer in the country.

If there’s one value that’s at the very centre of the UAE, it’s got to be charity. Just last week, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received an award for his charity work, and now, he’s paying it forward.

Together with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed honoured 46 philanthropists as UAE Pioneers.

The 46 humanitarians were selected from a longlist of 800, the Dubai Media Office says, and included the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi thanked Sheikh Mohammed for the recognition, saying there is no better feeling than spreading hope and good, as well as sharing joy with others.

Each one of the 46 has a remarkable story, but we were particularly drawn to that of Fatima Ali Ibrahim. The 82-year-old Sharjah woman distributes iftar meals to workers in her area every ramadan, and has done for decades.

“I am so happy being honored for my philanthropic work. It’s so great receiving a Pioneers Award,” Ibrahim told the Khaleej Times. “It’s a good thing that our leaders are encouraging people to help the poor, especially through such recognitions.”

“I have been giving out iftar meals to the poor workers for many years since I was still energetic. and I am still doing it,” she continued. “Sometimes, I had to endure the hot temperatures, but I always made sure to give out the meals in time so the workers didn’t miss out on iftar.”

We’re taking note of her attitude. Ibrahim thinks that as she can do this important work, she should, and that’s the kind of generous spirit we could all do well to remember.

Nice one.
